VARIATIONS
You’ve heard of goat yoga
a popular trend
For deep breaths and giggles
with downward dog bends
Well then let me share
what I learned of today!
Attempting pilates
while my seven-month played
The instructor shared moves
from my phone on the floor
And yet she lacked something
which challenged me more
An insistent small voice
from an army-crawl lad
Determined to get me
and start a new fad
As he grabbed at my ankles
with a conquerer’s glee
He invented a new kind
of exercise spree
Baby Pilates
(it’ll surely catch fire)
Pushing all moms
to bend faster and higher
I invented new moves,
to include on the fly,
My baby who grinned
when I lifted him high
So maybe, in all
it wasn’t the best
Of my workouts and stretches
yet at his behest
I’d rather hold him
than hold onto a pose
(And feeling the strength
in my arms as he grows)
There are so many changes
he’s brought to my days
Revolving around
when he naps, eats, and plays
Lovely variations
sometimes with a sigh
And a heart-catching smile
as I meet his blue eyes
So little, so loved
and growing so fast
Let me bottle these moments
make them last and last
To remember with fondness
how he just wanted … me
Grabbing my ankle
joyful victory
How he wakes us up early
dad and I, all in bed
Pure excitement to see us
with a new day ahead
He touches our faces
he laughs high and shrill
So busy and active
no time to be still
To everyday life
I’ll accept every change
Every edit which once
would have sounded so strange
So, Baby Pilates -
come try it with me!
Each time holds surprises
bundled in joyfully.
